The 2022 MBVMC Fall Show at the Little Sisters of the Poor Lawn Party was a resounding success!
The Fall show was at a new venue this year. We were part of the Little Sisters of the Poor annual Lawn Party. The open lawn surrounded by shade trees was an idilic venue. Also, the weather was what we around here call "perfect fall weather". There was space for lots of bikes on the firm turf and plenty of shade to sit under. The above picture shows the registration booth with bikes lined up on either side.
Below are some of the beautiful European bikes that were entered and people relaxing in the shade. Behind them is the nursing home and on the otherside of the building was the Lawn Party in full swing with bouncing houses for the kids and every kind of food you could imagine. This reporter had an Italian sausage sandwitch (to go with his Italian Motorcycle) and a Beignet for desert. Many of the Lawn Party visiters wandered over to look at the beautiful bikes that were on display, often saying "I had one of those". All of the procedes of our show went to the nursing home. To view all of the bikes in the show visit the gallery.
Lots of Japanese motorcycle showed up
Best of show went to John Traud's 1964 Harley Davidson DuoGlide
It looked better than when it left the factory. It was a kick-start-only 74 cubic inch V twin. The name DuoGlide comes from the sprung rear wheel which only appeared in 1958. Prior to that the Big Twins were named Hydroglide for their hydraulically damped front forks but the rear wheel was not sprung. To soften the ride the hinged seat rested on a spring loaded post called the "pogo stick". It was so effective that it was retained in the DuoGlide and the pogo stick can be clearly seen in the picture below. The combination made for a super smooth ride. In 1965 an electric starter was added to the big twins and the name was changed again to the Elctroglide. The big twins that had pressed steel valve covers like this one were called "Pan Heads".
