The 2003 Dauphin Island Show

Sunday morning found Mobile and Dauphin Island blanketed in thick wet fog.  In the 7 year history of the DI show we have never been rained on but it looked like this day would break our winning streak. However, by 11:00 the fog burned off revealing blue skies and a comfortable breeze off the Gulf. Sure enough, the bikes rolled in with the good weather.  The School PTO helpers were there with an outstanding food wagon serving fresh shrimp Po Boys, fried fish sandwiches, and burgers. We had 72 entries and gave all 3 trophies away in every class.  We saw lots of new bikes this year. Clearly the most unusual was the Moto Guzzi powered Morgan replica which Mike Porter brought. It also won best of show. Thanks to Mobile Bay Harley Davidson Who lent us a new V-Rod for a photo bike. For $5 you could get your picture taken on the V-Rod. Fathers drooled while their kids posed on the big Harley. All-in-all we made $1908 for the Dauphin Island School House. Below is a table of the winners. I was not able to identify all of the bikes from the photos I snapped so if you find a picture in the photo gallery that corresponds to one of our winners or if I have miss-labeled a bike please let know and I will fix it.
