April is usually our drought month when the farmers are praying for rain. Not this year. We had two solid weeks of rain leading up to our scheduled show date of the 19th. With the weather man forecasting 80% chance of rain on Sunday the 19th we canceled the show the night of the 16th which allowed the school people enough time to cancel their food purchase for the show. It rained almost all day on the 18th but the 19th was dry. However the field was not and even though there was no rain on the 19th we could not have gotten motorcycles in there. The rain date was the 26th. We had a few dry days up to Saturday the 25th. But that was when all hell broke loose. A tight-fisted storm swept over Mobile with blinding rain and near hurricane winds. It caught a fleet of about 100 sailboats converging on Dauphin Island in the annual Mobile to Dauphin Island race. Many boats capsized and 6 sailors were killed. Despite the tragedy at the island we decided to go ahead with the show on the 26th as the forecast was still good. The day turned out to be picture perfect with clear skies, a gentle breeze, and cool temperatures. All the more amazing was that it rained almost all day on the 27th. The break in the weather brought people to the show. We had 83 bikes registered and hundreds of spectators. The show was a financial success for the Dauphin Island PTO as they had a net profit from registration fees, food sales, and raffle tickets of $3600. Below is a list of this year's winners,with links to pictures of the bikes. We tried to take a picture of every bike in the show and you can see those in the gallery. We did miss a couple like Neil Cater's Harley. If you find a bike missing and have a picture of it please send it to the secretary jasdowney@gmail.com and he will add it.
